IDQ’s focus is to provide innovative and cost-effective solutions that leverage the tremendous capabilities offered by quantum photonics, associated with cutting edge analog and digital electronics.

The company was created in Geneva, Switzerland in 2001 on the strong vision of four scientists, who anticipated the important forthcoming impact of quantum physics on information technology. The company initially operated as a small university spin-off. In late 2003, IDQ raised one million Euros from i2i, a venture capital fund based in Luxemburg, which allowed the company to accelerate its growth.

Continuous passion, strong focus on innovation, flexibility of a dedicated team and excellent customer service have allowed IDQ to reach profitability and establish itself as a leader in the fields of network encryption, scientific instrumentation and random number generators. Its products are used by customers in more than 60 countries and on every continent.

The company also maintains close ties with leading academic institutions by participating to several Swiss and European R&D programs and plays a leading role in cutting-edge projects such as the SwissQuantum quantum key distribution testbed.

In early 2010, IDQ reorganized itself in three business units to better serve its customers.

Network Encryption

IDQ offers a broad range of high-security layer 2 encryptors for high-speed networks up to 10Gbps. These products have Common Criteria EAL4+ accreditation and are used by customers in the government and banking sectors. For uncompromised security, IDQ also offers a range of quantum key distribution products. Since 2001 id Quantique has been at the forefront of the advancement of this high-potential field and has performed several world premieres.

Scientific Instrumentation

IDQ also has a growing scientific instrumentation business, where the company's core quantum photonics technologies provide innovative solutions for industrial, commercial and research applications. Its product offering includes photon-counters for the visible and infrared regions of the optical spectrum, short-pulse laser sources, as well a R&D quantum key distribution platform.

Random Number Generators

IDQ also develops and commercializes random number generators based on quantum physics, which are used in several industries including security, prepaid services, as well as gaming and lotteries, where they have become a reference. These products have been independently certified by a Swiss national laboratory and truly random numbers at best-in-class bit rates.

The company has received several Swiss and international awards in recognition for its achievements and pioneering spirit.
In 2009, IDQ received a prestigious startup award for its success in commercializing quantum information technology and in implementing a sound business model.
The company also received information security prizes, including the 2007 Australian Information Industry iAward and the 2005 Security Zone Innovation Driver Award. IDQ was also a finalist for the 2004 RSA European Information Security Award.
IDQ received in 2004 the “CTI Startup Label” from the CTI-Startup initiative of the Swiss federal government, confirming its growth potential.
The company is also one of the recipients of the 2001 European Innovation Award from the Wall Street Journal Europe, as well as of the 2002 and 2004 Swiss Technology Awards.

Since 2006, it has also been using the myclimate foundation to offset its CO2 emissions from air travels.
