ID Quantique announces that the Quantis true random number generator, the world’s first quantum random number generator, has been evaluated and certified for gaming applications by Compliance Testing Laboratory, the leading UK test house. With this certification, gaming operators using Quantis are assured of a smooth game evaluation process.

Random numbers are an essential resource in gaming applications. They are used for example for drawing the winning numbers in online lotteries or for shuffling the card deck in online poker. Good random numbers are difficult to produce and cannot be generated by a computer, whose behavior is fully deterministic. It is thus essential to use a physical process to produce good random numbers and guarantee fair gaming.

The Quantis true random number generator (TRNG) uses a quantum optics process to generate random 0’s and 1’s. Photons – light particles – are sent on a semi-transparent mirror, where they randomly choose to be reflected or transmitted before being registered by single-photon detectors. As quantum physics is intrinsically random, it allows the generation of high quality random bits. The Quantis random number generator family has recently been evaluated and certified for gaming applications by Compliance Testing Laboratory (CTL), a leading UK test house for the online and land based gaming industry worldwide. CTL’s engineers subjected the Quantis TRNG to the most stringent industry standard randomness tests, which were passed successfully. “CTL is very pleased to have had the opportunity to test IDQ’s Quantis True Random Number Generator.
