3rd Edition of the Winter School on Practical Quantum Key Distribution

After a very successful 2nd Winter School on
Practical Quantum Cryptography, ID Quantique is proud to announce that
the third edition will take place in January 2011 in the Swiss Alps.
This training will target researchers in academic, industrial and
governmental laboratories who want to learn about state-of-the-art
practical quantum cryptography and the emerging applications of this
promising technology. The program includes key note sessions by renown
researchers Prof. Nicolas Gisin (University of Geneva), Prof. Renato
Renner (ETHZ) and Dr. Vadim Makarov (Norwegian University of Science and

World Cup Link Secured by Quantum Key Distribution
In the first use of ultra secure quantum encryption at a
world public event, a critical communications link has been protected by
IDQ's Hybrid Quantum Encryption solution for the duration of the FIFA
World Cup competition in Durban. This link was used to transmit vital
security information between Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium and the
offsite Joint Operations Centre. This deployment was successful, but no
eavesdropping attempt was detected.

Quantum Key Distribution Becomes More Secure Thanks to International Collaboration
The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)
and the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg have recently developed and
tested a technique exploiting imperfections in quantum cryptography
systems to implement an attack. Countermeasures were immediately
developed and implemented within an ongoing collaboration with leading
manufacturer ID Quantique. This collaboration illustrates the way
forward for secure QKD.
