Earlier this year, the European Commission announced their plan to launch a €1 billion flagship initiative on quantum technology. The aim of which is to put Europe at the forefront of the second quantum revolution, bringing transformative advances to science, industry and society.
We are delighted to announce that IDQ has been appointed as a member of the high level steering committee for the Commission Expert Group on Quantum Technology.
The mission of the group is to prepare the launch of the Quantum Technologies Flagship Initiative and to deliver a strategic research agenda, an implementation model and a governance model for the initiative.
The initiative is expected to turn Europe’s excellent research results in areas like quantum secure communication, quantum sensing and quantum simulation and computing into concrete technological opportunities that can be taken up by industry.
The quantum flagship will be managed as part of the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) programme. It is expected to be a large-scale initiative similar in size, timescale and ambition to the two ongoing FET flagships, the Graphene flagship and the Human Brain Project.
As nominated representatives of the quantum steering committee, IDQ will both provide key contributions to the work of the group and to the definition of the Strategic Research Agenda, from an industrial perspective.
Other organisations appointed to the group include: Airbus, ATOS, Ericsson, Siemens and Thales.
