Welcome to Quantum Sensing News: The latest Quantum Sensing and Single-Photon Systems updates brought to you by ID Quantique.

French President Macron declared, during a speech on January 21st at the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies, that he wanted to put France in the “world top three” of quantum technologies. We are proud to announce that our telecom-wavelength ID230 single-photon detectors have been used in an experimental demonstration of quantum advantage carried out by the CNRS (Centre national de la recherche scientifique), the first in Europe!

When light is detected at single-photon level, how do you define, qualify and report detector performance? We strongly believe that building confidence on system measurement performance requires being very clear and transparent about measurement parameter definition, measurement performance specification and qualification testing procedures. If you missed our recent webinar on this topic, Defining Superconducting Nanowire Single-Photon Detector (SNSPD) performance, presented by Félix Bussières, VP Research & Technology at ID Quantique, you can now watch the recording.

We will be online for SPIE Photonics West Virtual Conference, next week. Join us at the world’s largest photonics technologies event to learn from some of the top experts in the fields of biophotonics and healthcare, manufacturing with lasers, 3D technology applications, photonics-based consumer products, and more. Make sure to connect with us during the Photonics West week through the virtual exhibition and chat platform available on the digital Marketplace!

SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENTAL DEMONSTRATION OF QUANTUM ADVANTAGE USING IDQ’S ID230 DETECTORS

After Google and China making claims about quantum computer development, the CNRS (Centre national de la recherche scientifique) experimentally demonstrated the computational advantage over a classical machine! An important breakthrough and a first in Europe!

In the journal Nature communications, on February 8, 2021, the CNRS shows an: “Experimental demonstration of quantum advantage for NP verification with limited information”. We are proud to have contributed to this experiment whereas two SPAD-based ID230 single-photon detectors were used for the demonstration.
