QuEST: Quantum Era Security Times March 2019

Welcome to the latest edition of the Quantum Era Security Times, brought to you by ID Quantique, the world leader in quantum-safe cryptography solutions.

Our partner SK Telecom announced that it has ensured the quantum-safe security of their network by applying IDQ’s Quantum Random Number Generator to its 5G authentication centre. IDQ’s Quantum Key Distribution will also be implemented to SK Telecom’s high data traffic 5G and LTE networks next month.

We also celebrate a milestone in the development of ultra-secure quantum networks after BT announced the opening of the world’s first commercial-grade quantum test network link, which utilises equipment from IDQ.

Next we discuss KPN’s European Cyber Security Perspectives 2019. The report features three articles on the subject of quantum computing – including one from ourselves titled ‘Blockchain in a Post Quantum World’.

We then discuss our recent trip to Barcelona for MWC19, where we showcased our quantum cryptography and V2X solutions.

Finally we would like to invite you to join us in Ottawa from 14-17 May for ICMC19, where IDQ will be leading a panel discussion: Integrating Quantum Key Distribution in the real world.

Best regards,

Kelly Richdale

SK Telecom Continues to Protect its 5G Network with Quantum Cryptography Technologies

SK Telecom announced that it has applied IDQ’s Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) to its 5G authentication centre to prevent hacking and ensure quantum-safe security.

The subscriber authentication process is the first step in verifying a mobile device user before they are granted access to voice and video data services. Security in this process is crucial since a compromise of authentication key value can lead to serious crimes such as eavesdropping and hacking. Next month, IDQ’s QKD technology will be applied to the Seoul-Daejeon section of SK Telecom’s 5G and LTE networks.

BT UK quantum network

Testing begins on UK’s ultra-secure Quantum Network link

BT announces the opening of the first commercial-grade quantum test network link, which uses quantum cryptography equipment from IDQ and optical transmission equipment from ADVA.

The link between BT Labs in Suffolk and the Cambridge node of the UK’s new Quantum Network represents a milestone in the development of ultra-secure quantum networks. It will enable testing and demonstration of new quantum technologies such as QKD. Thanks to WDM, a single fibre carries encrypted data and key distribution, while BT Exchanges act as trusted nodes along the route.

Showcasing quantum cryptography for telecommunications at MWC 2019

For the second year, IDQ was present at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where we presented our latest quantum cryptography products alongside a new solution.

Sharing a booth with our partner SK Telecom, we displayed a 4D Trusted Repeater presently deployed within SK Telecom’s LTE/5G network, showcased the world’s smallest QRNG chip and demonstrated a brand new V2X security gateway solution aimed at protecting connected car and self-driving vehicles from external hacking attacks.
