Application Scientist – Quantum Detection Systems

About the Role

We are seeking an Application Scientist to join our dynamic team at the forefront of quantum innovation. In this role, you will work closely with leading academic and industrial partners to enable groundbreaking applications using our high-performance single-photon detection systems. You will play a critical role in bridging the gap between cutting-edge technology and real-world applications, helping our customers design and optimize solutions in quantum communication, computing, and sensing.

This is a customer-facing, technically hands-on role that blends scientific expertise with solution-oriented communication, contributing directly to business growth and product success.

 

Key Responsibilities

Customer Engagement & Technical Consulting

  • Provide pre- and post-sales technical support to customers developing quantum technologies, quantum science experiments, and imaging applications.
  • Guide system integration and experimental design involving single-photon detectors.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to researchers, engineers, and system architects.

Application Development & Demonstration

  • Develop and execute application examples and demonstrations using our detection systems.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and collaborate with internal R&D to solve customer challenges.
  • Author technical notes, best practice guides, and application-specific reference designs.

Product Evangelism & Market Insight

  • Represent the company at scientific conferences, trade shows, and technical workshops.
  • Gather and relay customer feedback to inform product development and roadmap decisions.
  • Monitor trends in quantum technologies and identify emerging opportunities.

Training & Enablement

  • Train internal teams and external partners on detector capabilities and use cases.
  • Develop and deliver educational content, webinars, and technical workshops.

 

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Physics, Engineering, Quantum Optics, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with photonic or quantum systems, including optical alignment and timing-sensitive experiments.
  • Excellent knowledge of single-photon detection principles and technologies (SNSPDs, SPADs) with a hands-on and demonstrated experience in quantum photonic experiments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; customer-facing experience a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and across teams in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% to 20% for customer visits and events.
