Quantis AIS31 is a physical (hardware) quantum random number generator which has been validated according to the stringent AIS31 test methodology, as defined by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). Quantis AIS31 RNG has passed the most rigorous testing up to level PTG.3 which will allow it to be used in more strongly regulated gaming or security markets.

As with the other products in the Quantis family, the Quantis AIS31 RNG products are compact, cost-effective and easy-to-use. The AIS31 RNG exploits a quantum optical process as a source of truly unpredictable randomness.  The output is a high bit-rate stream of random numbers, which do not exhibit any correlations, pass all statistical tests – including NIST and DIEHARD. Quantis is also highly resilient to environmental influences.

AIS31 RNG methodology and testing

Quantis’ compliance to the AIS31 standard has been tested by the CESTI-LETI (CEA Grenoble) and validated by the French National Agency for Security of Information Systems (ANSSI) according to the AIS31 methodology defined by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). The BSI-based AIS31 methodology defines three different classes of physical (true) random number generators:

PTG.1 – Physical RNG with internal tests that detect a total failure of the entropy source and non-tolerable statistical defects of the internal random numbers

PTG.2 – PTG.1 class, with additionally a stochastic model of the entropy source and livel statistical tests of the raw random numbers

PTG.3 – PTG.2 class, with additionally cryptographic post-processing of the raw random number output

The Quantis AIS31 RNG complies with all the requirements of the PTG.3 class. It provides cryptographic post-processing based on the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)that offers an additional security anchor. The cryptographic post-processing required to achieve PTG.3 level compliance reduces the raw bit rate of 4Mbps to approximately 75Kbps.

In addition to the high quality of the random numbers being produced, the devices are also subjected to more intensive environmental testing, to ensure performance in even harsher environments.
